Lukla Flight Diversion

You will have to take the Kathmandu to Lukla flying route for the Luxury Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek. However, during the peak trekking season (spring and autumn) months, there is the probability of the flight getting re-routed from the Manthali Airport in Ramechhap due to heavy traffic congestion in the Kathmandu to Lukla route.

So, to catch the morning flight from Manthali Airport you will need to wake up at around 1:30 to 2:00 AM to take the 5 to 6-hour drive from Kathmandu to Ramcechhap. You can also drive there the night before to avoid the hassle of waking up at midnight for a long drive.

The re-routing entirely depends on the traffic volume for that particular flight and the decision of the airline. There is also a helicopter flying option for this route; you will need to pay around US$ 550 per person to take a comfortable flight from Kathmandu to Lukla.

Day 1

Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400m/ 4,593ft)

Day 2

Fly to Lukla (2,840m / 9,318ft) and Trek to Phakding (2,610m/ 8,563ft)

Your Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek itinerary on this day will commence your journey to the mountain region. You will take a thrilling flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Flying over the lush valleys and admiring the diversity in the landscape, you will head toward the Himalayan region, where the aerial views of the peaks feel surreal.

After landing in Lukla, you will do short meet and greet session with the rest of the crew members and begin your trekking journey. From Lukla, you will make your descent to the Dudh Koshi River and follow the route that connects with the Namche Bazaar trail above Chaurikharka Village.

Continuing further on the trail, admiring the lush greenery across the river ban,k you will then reach Dudh Koshi Ghat Village. A short brisk hike from here will then finally take you to Phakding Village where you will rest at the luxury lodge, Yeti Mountain.

Day 3

Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440m / 11,286ft)

After enjoying a luxury breakfast, you will then hit the trail heading toward the Sherpa capital. You will continue moving along the bank of Dudh Koshi and pass through the little town of Toktok. Then, on the path ahead, you will enter the Sagarmatha National Park from Monjo Village, which is at a trekking distance of about three hours.

Crossing a suspension bridge up ahead, you will descend on the river bank to reach Jorsale Village. The journey continues across the scenic landscape at the bank of the Dudh Koshi and after crossing the fifth bridge, Tenzing Hillary Bridge, you will reach the edge of Namche Ukalo.

The final stretch on this day’s trail is a steep climb that will unveil the first view of Mount Everest and you will then finally enter the Namche Bazaar. After reaching Namche, you will check in at your luxury lodge and explore the vibrant Sherpa town during your leisure time before dinner.

Day 4

Acclimatization Day at Namche Bazaar

During your trek up to Namche Bazaar, you have covered a significant altitude. Thus, before proceeding further, you need to get some rest and take your time adapting to the high-altitude climate. In the morning, you will do an acclimatization hike to Everest View Hotel (3,880/ 12,729ft), from where you will be able to enjoy spectacular views of Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Thamserku, Taboche and other surrounding peaks.

You will enjoy your lavish breakfast at the hotel and you can explore other highlights of Namche during the daytime. During this exploration day, you can visit the Khumjung and Khunde Village, Hillary School, Sherpa Museum, Sagarmatha Next Centre, etc, which are the major highlights of the region.

Day 5

Trek to Pangboche (3,930m / 12,894ft)

After enjoying your rest day at Namche Bazaar, you will continue ascending further in the mainstream Everest Base Camp Trek route. You will continue walking on the beautiful high altitude trail, enjoying the majestic vistas of Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam.

Following the eastern edge of the plateau above Namche, you will head toward Kyangjuma Village. Then, trekking beside the cascading flow of the Dudh Koshi River and you will follow the path that drops across the alpine pine forest to Phunki Thenga.

Enjoying the view of Tengboche and stunning peaks on the backdrop, you will cross several small villages to reach a bridge. The ascending route from here then takes you to Tengboche Village. From here, you can enjoy the majestic views of Ama Dablam and Everest.

However, your destination isn’t Tengboche on this day, so you follow the path on the northern side further up in the valley and descend to Deboche Village. During the final stretch, you will cross the Imja Khola and follow a steep ascend toward Pangboche Village.

Day 6

Hike to Ama Dablam Base Camp (4,570m / 15,000ft) and Return to Pangboche

After breakfast in Pangboche, you will begin your return trek to the Sherpa capital. You will first make your descent across Deboche and head toward Tengboche. Then, switching to the lush trails, you will cross Phunki Thenga to join the bank of Dudh Koshi.

You will then continue trekking on the scenic trail of the river and head toward Kyangjuma Village. On this exciting trail, the stunning views of Everest, Ama Dablam and other adjacent peaks will keep you company.  A short walk from here will then take you back to Namche Bazaar.

Day 7

Trek to Lukla

After relishing the vibrance of this incredible Sherpa town, you will continue your return trek to the starting point. You will follow the downhill trail from Namche and follow the beautiful trails on the bank of Dudh Koshi, heading toward Jorsale Village.

At this point, you will reach the edge of the national park. Then, making the exit from Monjo Village, you will trek past other beautiful settlements along the way. During the last part of the trekking trail, you will walk past Ghat Village and follow a winding trail through Chaurikharka to reach Lukla.

Day 8

Fly Back to Kathmandu

It is time to bid farewell to the magical Himalayan ambiance and return to Kathmandu. You will take a morning flight from Lukla back to the capital. Flying over the abundant green valleys, colorful settlements and high hills, enjoying aerial views of the snow-clad peaks will be an unforgettable experience.

After landing at the airport we will swiftly transfer back to your five-star hotel. Get some rest during the day and you can take a short stroll around the city. Make sure to check the vibrant life of the city and popular cafes/restaurants for an immersive cultural experience.

Day 9

Explore Kathmandu

Before wrapping up this Luxury Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek, you will take your time to explore the cultural, religious and historical background of Nepal. Yes, this will be a Kathmandu sightseeing day, which will include the major landmarks in the capital valley.

Bottled mineral water bottles are also available at the teahouses. But, as they are not environment-friendly and are costly at higher altitudes, you should consider carrying a reusable bottle with a filter for a sustainable and cost-effective choice.

Instead of buying water at the teahouses, you can also fill the bottles at the clean drinking stations. Although water from these stations is safe to drink, you should filter it and purify it before consuming it.
