Short Manaslu Circuit Trek – 12 Days Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola (930m)

To begin your immersive 12-day Manaslu Circuit Trek, you will take a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola on a local bus. This 7-8 hour journey takes you through the rural parts of Nepal, introducing you to the diverse landscapes, including fast-flowing rivers, terraced fields, and quaint highway lifestyle. Your bus journey to Machha Khola heads northward from Kathmandu via Gorkha. Upon reaching Machha Khola, you will check into your local teahouse for an overnight stay.

Day 2

Trek from Machha Khola to Jagat (1,410m)

Today is your first day of trekking. The trek takes you along the Budhi Gandaki River, winding through lush forests, over suspension bridges, and across several charming villages, including Khorla Besi, Dovan, and Yaru Bagar. Along the way, you will also pass the iconic hot springs of Khorla Besi as you continue your journey through the beautiful valley. After 6 to 7 hours of trekking, you will cross agricultural lands and small settlements before reaching your overnight destination of Jagat. Jagat is a charming village with stone architecture. This is also the entry point to the Manaslu Conservation Area.

Day 3

Trek from Jagat to Deng (1,804m)

Leaving Jagat behind, you will begin the day’s trek along the Budhi Gandaki River, passing several scattered villages. Your journey takes you across a thrilling suspension bridge before gradually ascending into the dense sub-tropical forests. You will also experience a gradual change in the landscape as you cross the pine and rhododendron forest. Furthermore, your trek to Deng past the diverse terrain, the Tibetan influences on the region become more prominent. You will find more Tibetan-influenced architecture and cultural elements as you enter the picturesque Deng.

Day 4

Trek from Deng to Namrung (2,630m)

Today, you will trek further into the upper Manaslu region. Your journey takes you through small settlements across several suspension bridges. The trek involves gentle ascents and descents through charming villages and terraced fields of Bhim Phedi, Ghap, and Prok. Today’s trek also gives you the first view of the stunning Ganesh Himal vistas as you trek to the beautiful village of Namrung.

You will spend the night in the iconic stone architecture of Namrung under the shadows of Ganesh Himal and Siringi Himal.

Day 5

Trek from Namrung to Lho (3,180m)

As you continue your journey along the Manaslu Circuit trails, you will find increasingly spectacular mountain views amid the off-the-beaten-path routes. Today, you will reach the more alpine regions where Tibetan influences are more pronounced. The journey takes you through fir, rhododendron, and oak forests to your destination in Lho.

Lho is a large settlement with ancient monasteries and awe-inspiring first views of Manaslu. You will also find majestic views of Himalchuli and Ngadi Chuli.

Day 6

Trek from Lho to Samagaun (3,520m)

Your trek today is relatively shorter and begins with a brief descent. Next, you will go on an uphill journey through pasture lands and traditional villages, passing mesmerizing chortens and mani walls. You can also take an optional detour to the Pungyen Monastery and soak in the spiritual aura of this ancient Buddhist monastery before continuing to Samagaun.

Day 7

Acclimatize in Samagaun

In Samagan, you will spend a day acclimatizing. Acclimatization is crucial, especially while tackling the high-altitude conditions of the Himalayas. By properly acclimatizing, your body adjusts to the harsh conditions, minimizing the risks of acute mountain sickness, or altitude sickness.

For better acclimatization, you will take a short hike to the Manaslu Campsite or Birendra Tal. Enjoy the magnificent surrounding landscape before returning to Samagoan. You will have the rest of the afternoon to yourself. Explore the village and experience the tranquility of the region.

Day 8

Trek from Samagaun to Samdo (3,875m)

After the crucial acclimatization day, you leave Samagaun behind and continue toward Samdo. Today’s journey begins with a gradual climb through the barren Himalayan terrain. This high-altitude trek allows you to walk side-by-side with the stunning Himalayan peaks. After a 4-hour trek across the rugged terrain, you will reach the Tibetan refugee village of Samdo. Samdo is a village that neighbors Tibet and gives you a glimpse of the traditional nomadic lifestyle and vibrant Buddhist culture.

Day 9

Trek from Samdo to Dharmashala (4,460m)

Today, you will continue along the rugged Himalayan terrain, relishing the magnificent mountain views. As you depart from Samdo, you will stop at the trade center of the Manaslu region in Larke Bazaar. Larke Bazaar flaunts its Buddhist heritage with vibrant monuments, mani walls, chortens, and colorful prayer flags.

From Larke Bazaar, your journey continues toward the viewpoint of Larke Base Camp before reaching Dharmashala. Dharamshala is your overnight destination, where you can enjoy the close-up view of the Naike Peak.

Day 10

Cross Larke Pass (5,106m) | Trek to Bimthang (3,590m)

Today is the pinnacle of your 12-day Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal. The journey begins before dawn. Starting before dawn, you will climb the steep and rugged Larke Pass (5,106 meters), navigating tricky terrain that may be covered in snow. The journey is difficult as you will be walking on the tricky terrain covered in snow. However, upon reaching the Larke Pass summit, you will experience an unparalleled sense of achievement. You will be rewarded with a breathtaking sunrise over the Masaslu Range, Cheo Himal, Himlung Himal, and Annapurana II. Celebrate your achievement before beginning the steep descent to Bimtang.

Today’s journey typically lasts 8 to 9 hours. Upon reaching Bimtang, you can enjoy your much-deserved rest with the stunning mountain backdrop.

Day 11

Trek from Bimthang to Dharapani (1,963m)

Today’s journey is a moderate 7-hour downhill descent from Bimtang. During this more leisurely walk, you will find a significant change in the scenery as you hike through dense sub-tropical forests of pine and rhododendron. As you reach Dudh Khola, you will experience warmer temperatures. The route eventually joins the Annapurna Circuit Trekking route at Dharapani, where you can enjoy better amenities, including a hot shower and more en-suite rooms.

Day 12

Drive from Dharapani to Kathmandu

You have come to the end of your incredible Manaslu Circuit Trek. The trek concludes with a scenic drive back to Kathmandu through serene rural landscapes, across several settlements. Upon arriving in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your accommodation, officially ending the 12-day Manaslu Circuit adventure.
