Detailed Itinerary: 20 Days Manaslu Circuit And Tsum Valley Trek

On the first day of your Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trek, you will board a comfortable vehicle after breakfast to enjoy a scenic cross-valley drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola. You will drive on the Prithvi Highway following the crusading currents of the Marshyangdhi and Trishuli Rivers as you drive past terraced farms, high hills, lush forests, waterfalls, and charming settlements along the banks.

After crossing the Trishuli River to head toward Dhading Bensi, you will continue toward Arughat, driving past Dorandi Khola toward the north; you will finally arrive at Soti Khola. From here, you will be able to enjoy the incredible views of Ganesh Himal and Manaslu, and moving along the low valley to the north, you will reach Lapubesi, and a short descent further ahead will take you to Macha Khola.

Your trekking adventure will begin on day 2 of your Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trek; following the gorge along the river, you will cross Tharo Khola and head toward Khorlabesi. After crossing another bridge from this village, you will push for Tatopani, the natural hot spring with healing properties, a good place to rest your sore muscles.

From here, you will cross the Budhi Gandaki River on a suspension bridge and head toward the Dobhan Village. During the final stretch of this day’s trekking adventure, you will cross the suspension bridge over the Yaru Khola and trek past the stone stair to Thado Bharayng to finally reach Jagat, the entrance point of the Manaslu Conservation Area.

Moving further with your trekking adventure, on Day 3 of Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trek, you will enter the restricted area of Tsum Valley. You will witness the incredible beauty of the untampered region in the pure wilderness on this day; after crossing the Dudhg Pokhari Khola, your trail will take you to the traditional settlements of Salleri and Siridibas.

After some interaction with the natives and admiring their lifestyle, you will trek down to the banks of the Dudhkoshi River and cross a bridge over the river heading toward the Philim Village. Moving further in your trekking route, you will walk past Ele Bhatti, the junction of the trail heading toward Tsum Valley and to Manaslu. Following the upward trail, you will trek past several smaller settlements to reach Lokpa. This charming high-altitude settlement is situated between the Budhi Gandaki River and Siyar Khola.

It’s another scenic day’s trekking adventure in your Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trek; following the south bank of the Siyar Khola, you will trek past the lush rhododendron and pine forests. You will explore the completely secluded wilderness in this Lokpa to Chumling route, as there are no other settlements in between.

Trekking past the Lungwaa, you will cross the Sarli Khola heading toward the north bank, and a final gradual ascend from the riverbed will bring you to the Chumling Village. After your arrival at Chumklung, you can explore the monasteries like Mani Dhungyur, Panago Gumba, and Gurwa Gumba, from where you can catch the incredible views of the Himlung Himal.

During the first part of this day’s trekking adventure on your Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trek, you will traverse across the lush rhododendron and pine forests. With the epic views of the Ganesh Himal at the backdrop, you will ascend higher along the Siyar Khola and arrive at Damphe Gompa.

After taking a short break here, you will continue with your trekking trail and descend down to the riverbed of the Sarphu Khola. The slight ascend after crossing a bridge over the river, you will finally arrive at Chekampar.

Moving alongside the gradually inkling trail on Day 6 of your Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trek, you will head toward the Nile, the last settlement in the Upper Tsum Valley. During this day’s trekking adventure, you will follow the moderately flat trekking trail to the north of the Siyar Khola and trek past charming settlements like Lama Gau, Lar, Bursi, Phurbey, and Pungdun.

You will also get the opportunity to explore the Rachen Gompa and Milarepa Pire Phu Cave along the trail. You will cross a suspension bridge over the Siyar Khola during the final part of this day’s adventure to reach the Nile.

Continuing with the ascending trekking trails, you have already gained a significant altitude in your Himalayan exploration. Thus, Day 7 in your Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trek will be an acclimatization day. You will acclimatize properly here before proceeding further in your adventure.

As you should do some physical activities for an effective acclimatization process, we will climb up to Mu Gompa and do some detours around the region. After exploring Mu Gompa, you will trek down to the Nile for an overnight stay, enjoying the secluded, serene ambiance of the Himalayan region surrounded by towering peaks.

Moving along with your descending trekking route, on Day 9 of your Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trek, you will cross the Sarphu Khola over a bridge and reach Damphe Gompa. Then, moving further ahead in this day’s trekking adventure, you will cross the lush rhododendron and pine forests, following the scenic trail alongside the Siyar Khola to reach Chmling for an overnight stay.

On Day 10 of your Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trek, you will descend even further, bidding farewell to the Tsum Valley. It's an easy day’s trekking adventure as you follow the scenic trails of the Siya Khola again to reach the Lokpa Village. From here, you will descend further to the banks of teh Budhi Gandaki River and cross a suspension bridge over the river to enter a narrow gorge.

After overcoming several ascending and descending segments along the route, you will cross a suspension bridge over the river heading toward Nurpi. Trekking past the bamboo forest during the last stretch will take you to the Gurung village of Deng.

Namrung Elevation: 2,630 meters/ 8,628 feet

It's an exciting day’s trekking adventure in your Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trek; today, leaving Deng behind, you will traverse across the Budhi Gandaki River on a bridge to reach Bihi Phedi. Then, proceeding further in your trekking route, you will walk past a large waterfall and cross a wood bridge over a canyon.

The path up ahead from here drops to the riverbed of the Shringi Khola Valley and takes you to the west of the valley across the lush rhododendron-pine forest and traditional settlements of the region. A few more turns and twists along the trekking route wil take you to Ghap, and the dense bamboo rhododendron forests on an inclining trail from Ghap will bring you to Namrung.

Lho Elevation: 3,157 meters/ 10,357 feet

Leaving the spiritual settlement behind, you wil trek past the mani walls, Buddhist gompas, and traditional settlements out to the open valley. Moving further ahead in your trekking route of this day’s adventure in your Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trek, you will arrive at Sho; you will be able to enjoy the spectacular views of Manaslu North and Manaslu.

Then, moving further up ahead in your trekking route, you will arrive at Lho Village. It's a short day’s trekking adventure, and you will be able to admire the traditional settlements of the Lho built with stones and a religious ambiance influenced by the Tibetan-Buddhist culture. Overnight stay at a teahouse in Lho.

Day 13 in your Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trek is a scenic and short day’s trekking adventure; however, as you gain a significant altitude on this day’s adventure, you are recommended to take it slow and stay hydrated. After leaving Sho behind, you will trek past the alpine forests and charming traditional settlements to reach Shyala Village.

From the vantage point of this village, you will be able to enjoy magnificent views of the Himalayan massifs like Himal Chuli, Manaslu, Phungi, and other adjacent peaks. Then, the trail further up ahead with clear views of Ganesh Himal stretches all the way to Sama Gaun.

Manaslu Base Camp Elevation: 4,800 meters/ 15,748 feet

After gaining a significant altitude, Day 14 in your Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trek will be a second acclimatization of your adventure. Today, for an effective acclimatization process, you will do a hike to the Manaslu Base Camp. From the vantage viewpoint of the base camp, you will able to enjoy the fantastic views of the Manaslu Glacier, Birendra Tal, and the incredible Himlayan peaks.

Other hiking options like Pungyen Gompa and Sama Gaun Monastery are also popular among the trekkers. After your hike, you will walk back to Sama Gaun and enjoy one more night in its serene vibrance surrounded by incredible peaks.

Moving further ahead in the trekking adventure of Day 15 in your Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trek, you will follow the trekking trail that descends down to the riverbed of the Budhi Gandaki River. Passing the junction point of the Manaslu Base Camp and Birednra Tal, you will trek past the mani walls and settlements closer to the Tibetan border.

Then, traversing across the juniper and birch forest ahead, you will head toward the stone located at Kermo Kharka. From here, you will cross a wooden bridge on your ascending route and arrive at the Kani Gateway, the entrance of the Samdo Village. You will be able to enjoy a picturesque view of the Manaslu from this Himalayan village.

Samdo Elevation: 3,865 meters/ 12,680 feet

As you have ascended over a significant altitude by Day 15 of your Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trek, this day will be a rest day in your adventure. You are recommended to do some physical activities for an effective acclimatization process, so you can do some short hikes around the region or the Tibet border.

From the vantage point of Samdo, you will be rewarded with stunning views of the Himalayan massifs, like Himchuli, Larkye Peak, Simrang, Samdo Peak, and other adjacent peaks. After your hike, you can stroll around the village, exploring the Tibetan-influenced culture, traditions, and lifestyle of the natives. Overnight stay at Samdo.

Samdo Elevation: 3,865 meters/ 12,680 feet

Dharamsala Elevation: 4,460 meters/ 14,632 feet

Elevation Gain: 595 meters/ 1,952 feet

On Day 16 of this Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trek, you will head toward the second-highest elevation point of this Himalayan adventure. Leaving the trails of Samdo behind, you will trek across mani walls, terraced farms, and a wooden bridge over the Budhi Gandaki River heading toward the upper part of the Samdo Valley.

You will pass through the juniper and pine forest trails before reaching the Larkya Glacier; moving further ahead in this day’s trekking trail, you will cross the Salka Khola Valley and follow the ascending one more time to reach the stone guest house of Dharamsala. This isn’t a lodge/teahouse but more of a resting destination and the last stop in this trekking route before the Larkya La Pass.

This is one of the challenging and at the same time exhilarating day’s adventures in your Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trek; today, you will trek over one of the highest Himalayan passes, Larkya La Pass [5,160 meters/ 16,929 feet]. Leaving Dharamsala behind, you will follow the gentle climb to the moraine and start your trek over the pass near a small lake.

Continuing further on the ridge of the moraine marked by two cairns, you will start seeing the prayer flags on the route of the Larkya La Pass. Then, you will make a final descent to the four frozen lakes and follow the steep climbing trailing from here to the top of the pass. Although this day’s trekking route is a little bit tough, the stunning views of Cheo Himal, Minjung, Kanguru, Himlung Himal, Annapurna II, and Manaslu will make the trip worth it.

After relishing the serene and magical surroundings from the top of this pass, you will descend down the steep slopes of the pass to a grassy moraine. Then, after trekking past the small meadow, the valley will open wide, and your trekking trail up ahead across a large meadow will take you to Bimthang.

After concluding the Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trek, on Day 18 of your expedition, you descend down to Dharapani from Bimthang. Traversing across the glacial moraine, you will descend down to the Dudh Khola and cross a wooden bridge over the river; the path further up ahead passes through the lush pine and rhododendron forest and stretches all the way to Hompuk.

This day’s trekking trails will be accompanied by stunning views of Manaslu, Cheo Himal, Himlung Himal, and Lamjung Himal as you make your way toward the Gurung settlement of Gho. Then, moving past the Tilije, you will cross Dudh Khola, heading toward the Marsyangdhi Valley. After crossing the wooden bridge from the Thonje Village during the last stretch of this day’s adventure, you will finally arrive at Dharapani.

It is time to bid farewell to this enchanting Himlayan region on day 19 of your Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trek; you will board a comfortable vehicle after breakfast at Dharapani for your return to Kathmandu. Driving past the beautiful settlements of Jagat, Tal, Besisahar, and Bhulbhule, you will rejoin the Prithvi Highway for a comfortable drive.

Then, driving alongside the Trishuli and Marsyangdhi Rivers, you will make your way to the capital city. On your arrival in Kathmandu, you will be dropped back at your respective hotel after getting some rest and exploring the cafes/restaurants, checking out the vibrant nightlife of the capital valley.
