Detailed Itinerary of Everest Base Camp 16 days

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Maximum Altitude: 1,345 meters

Highlights: Nepali local food and exploring the cultural lifestyle of Nepali people

Welcome to Nepal! Our representative will receive you at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). And, escort you to the respective hotels.

After your refreshment, we will provide a short briefing regarding your trip. And the rest of the time you may stroll around the streets of Kathmandu.

Day 2: Sightseeing around the Kathmandu Valley

Sightseeing around the Kathmandu Valley

Highlights: Sightseeing at UNESCO world heritage sites

On the second day, you will have a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu valley. You will be visiting 3 UNESCO world heritage sites.

Visiting Kathmandu Durbar Square and strolling around the lovely streets of Kathmandu old Ason market. You can also visit the home of the living Goddess Kumari. Then you can witness the biggest Hindu Temple of Nepal – the Pashupatinath Temple.

And visiting one of the world’s glorious and ancient temple- the Swayambhunath Temple. It is also known as monkey temple.

Day 3: Fly to Lukla and Trek to Phakding

On the third day, the EBC trek begins with a short 35 minutes flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. The flight to Lukla is a lifetime experience.

The flight from Kathmandu to Lukla always leave early in the morning due to weather conditions. After you reach Lukla, the actual EBC treks begin where you will trek towards Phakding.

The trail goes through the Dudh Koshi river. After passing several villages, mani walls, and bridges you will arrive at Phakding.

Day 4: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar

Namche Bazaar

Maximum Altitude: 3,440 meters

Highlights: Crossing several suspension bridges and walking via Sagarmatha National Park

On the fourth day, you will trek to Namche Bazaar from Phakding. The trail takes you through the Dudh Koshi river and Monjo. You will cross many exciting suspension bridges laden with prayer flags.

At Monjo, the trek officially enters Sagarmatha National park. Here, you will have to issue the Sagarmatha National Park permit card to continue your trek.

Then the walk proceeds toward Jhorsalley village. You will also walk through Rhododendron, pines, and oaks forests. Then after a few hours, you will reach Namche Bazaar. In Namche Bazaar, you can visit the colorful and busy markets on Saturdays.

The route to Namche is slightly challenging. But, it will be worth it by seeing the amazing beauty of the environments.

Day 5: Namche Bazaar Acclimatization Day

On the fifth day, you will spend in Namche Bazaar in order to acclimatize. This will help you to adjust to the environment.

Namche Bazaar is the primary town of the Everest or Khumbu region. You can tour around this place, it has many shops, restaurants, internet cafes, and a colorful market.

Namche offers a diverse culture, flora, fauna and with full of interesting museums, gompas, and so on.

You will hike to the Sagarmatha National Park. You can enjoy the view of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, etc. And also visiting the Khunde hospital built by Sir Edmund Hillary.

Day 6: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche

Inside this monastery, there are ornate wall hangings and robes of lamas. Along with 20-foot sculpture of Buddha and musical instruments.

Day 7: Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche

Dingboche

Trek Hours: 5 hrs

Highlights: Walking via lush forests, passing via Chortens, Mani-walls, and prayer flags.

On the seventh day, you will trek towards Dingboche from Tengboche.

The trails drop down to Debuche, crossing another exciting suspension bridge on Imja Khola. Then climb up to Pheriche and Pangboche amongst the thousand of mani stones.

This route passes through the lush forest of Rhododendron and birch. While trekking, you can encounter the wonderful views of Mount Everest and other peaks. You can also witness different mani walls and chortens along the trail.

Then after the continuous walk of 4 to 5 hrs of the day, you finally reach Dingboche.

Day 8: Dingboche Acclimatization Day

Highlights: Awestruck view of Mt Lhotse, Mt Ama Dablam and stone walls covering Imja valley

On the eighth day, you will have some rest in Dingboche. Spending a day in Dingboche will help to acclimatize in the high elevation.

After breakfast, you will hike to Nangkartshang peak just above Dingboche. This is the vantage point where it will reward you with the panoramic view of Mt Ama Dablam and Lhotse.

If the weather is clear, you will get to see Ama Dablam in its entirety. Furthermore, you can also encounter Mt Makalu and Cho Oyu.

With a great Himalayan view, you can admire the picturesque Imja valley. And also the beautiful and charming Dingboche village.

Day 9: Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche

Lobuche

Maximum Altitude: 4,940 meters

Trek Hours: 5 to 6 hrs

Highlights: Amazing view of Chola Lake and Mt Pumori, stone memorials of Sherpas that perished at the Khumbu Glacier.

On a ninth day, you will head from Dingboche to Lobuche. The trek begins with a climb to Dughla via Khumbu Khola valley.

The trek ascends towards Chupki Lhara via boulder-strewn slopes. You will enjoy a majestic view of Chola lake and Mt Pumori.

The trail continues along the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. It also passes by stone memorials of Sherpas that perished on nearby the summits.

The top of the ridge is all surrounded by prayer flags, mani walls, and stones. You can also get an amazing view of other peaks including Khumbutse, Lingtren, and Mahalangur Himal. Then leaving behind the Khumbu Glacier, the trails gently climbs up to the Lobuche.

Day 10: Trek from Lobuche to Everest Base Camp – back to Gorak Shep

Gorak Shep

Maximum Altitude: 5,365 meters

Trek Hours: 8 to 9 hrs

Highlights: 360-degrees views of snowy mountains like Mt. Pumori, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Khumbu. The glimpse of Kala Patthar, and walking via glacial trails and reach Everest Base Camp.

This is a big and difficult day walk along the Khumbu Glacier and up to Everest Base Camp at 5,365m. You get closest to the Mt. Everest.

You will start your trek from Lobuche to Gorak Shep. Walking via rocky glacier you’ll reach Gorak Shep.

Following the trails of Khumbu Glacier and catching the glimpse of Mt. Everest finally you’ll reach Everest Base Camp.

The Everest Base Camp is stunningly beautiful. You can enjoy amazing views of Nuptse, Khumbuste and Pumori mountains from the Base Camp.

After soaking in the beauty, you walk back towards Gorak Shep where you will spend the night.

Day 11: Hike up to Kalapathar and Trek to Pheriche

On the eleventh day, you will hike to Kalapathar in the early morning. After a few hours of walking, you will reach Kalapathar.

The trail is a demanding and challenging, yet rewarding part of the trek. All the scenery of the surrounding is seriously breathtaking.

After spending some time and capturing all the beautiful moments, you will hike back to Gorak Shep. Then from Gorak Shep, you will descend to Pheriche to spend the night.

Day 12: Trek from Pheriche to Namche Bazaar

Trek Hours: 6 to 7 hrs

Highlights: Passing through several villages like Tengboche, Pangboche, Sansa, Khumjung, and Namche.

On the twelfth day, you will head back to Namche Bazaar from Pheriche. The trail drops downhill until you reach Pangboche village.

The trail has a lot of ups and downs. You will ascend to hillside filled with Rhododendron and juniper trees. You will also cross a bridge over Dudh Koshi river.

Then you will descend through pine forests. Here, you can easily spot mountain goats, pheasant, and other wild animals and birds.

Then you will eventually reach Sansa village. Here you can witness beautiful mountains.

After that, following the Khumjung village and walking via the forest you will reach Namche Bazaar.

Day 13: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla

Maximum Altitude: 2,840 meters

On the thirteenth day, you will head back to Lukla from Namche Bazaar.

The trek begins by walking on a rocky terrain to reach Namche Bazaar. It is downhill trek following the Dudh Koshi river.

You will cross several suspension bridges, monasteries, and Sherpa villages. You can enjoy walking on open Rhododendron and pine forests.

After reaching Lukla, you will spend the rest of the day by taking some rest. As it will be the last day in the mountains.

Day 14: Fly Back to Kathmandu

On the fourteenth day, you’ll fly back to Kathmandu early in the morning. You will enjoy the 35-minute scenic flight from Lukla to Kathmandu.

Day 15: Rest Day/ Shopping/ Leisure

You will celebrate the completion of Everest Base Camp trek and have final dinner together in the evening.

Autumn- September, October, November

Winter- December, January, February

Summer- June, July, August
